STOMP!

I forgot to mention last month that my birthday came around. No, I swear, I wasn't trying to hide it or sweep it under the carpet or anything! ...
Anyway, to celebrate my 31st birthday, my lovely girlfriend took me out to dinner at Almeida, a nice, slightly upmarket French restaurant in Islington. The food was delightful, the wine was just right, and the company was lovely!
However, this wasn't to be my only present. Lora also got us some tickets to see STOMP in the West End. Now, I'd been wanting to see this for a while (it opened in Australia ages ago) so it was really a great idea for a present.
So, last night, after another lovely dinner at Le Garrick (what do you mean, all we do is eat? false, we drink, too.), we headed down to the Vaudeville Theatre for an evening filled with rhythm! Check out this video:
It was awesome. If you ask my parents, they'll tell you that I always had this manic urge to tap on everything in sight when I was a kid. Combine that with my musical interests, and you'll understand why a musical which is entirely based on making percussion & rhythm out of anything (no singing, no dialog) appealed to me!
These guys use everything, anything, even the kitchen sink (litteraly!) to create the simplest beat, or the most complicated polyrhythms. Add a healthy dose of humor, some enthusiastic audience participation (to their best of their abilities - some people just can't keep a beat), amazing performers and you have a great night out.
